In the western countries, there are accredited Kennel clubs mainly from – United Kingdom, Australia, United States, New Zealand, Canada etc. These kennel clubs classify all types of dogs based on their usage and utility. There are certain big dog breeds that also come under these clubs. The best example would be Central Asian Shepard dog which is predominantly used in the Caucasian and Central Asian Region as transport as well as military dogs.

Life Span:-

The life span of big breed dogs is also much smaller typically lasting maximum about 10 years. On the lower side it can be as less as 5 or 6 years.   

A very famous  and popular name in the big dog breeds  is the  – “ Zorba” an English Mastiff  which weighed around 155 kilograms and had an astounding length of almost eighteen feet end to end.

The great Swiss mountain dog –

This one is a big breed dog which is found in the Swiss Alps Mountains. Its duties are typically of a mountain dog but it has a domesticated nature and is closely attached to families especially children. A very old breed dog, it has a weight of more than 70 kilos and a height of almost 30 inches. The reference in books and movies is frequent. 

Cane Corso –

This is an Italian breed dog and part of the Napolean mastiff group. It is again a livestock guardian as well as a hunter. The weight of this dog is between 45 to 50 kilograms and the average height is about 28 inches

English mastiff –

It is one of the very well heard name in the big breed dogs. The demarcating feature of this big breed dog is the massive body size. The average body weight is around 115 kilograms but in spite of this, it can be found in urban homes. 

Caucasiun Shepherd dog –

A large breed of dog found majorly as the name suggests in the Russian and Cucasian area. They are mountain, guarding and domestic dogs due to sturdy and muscular bodies.  The weight can be anywhere between 50 to 100 kilograms and the height averages around 30 inches.

Great Dane –

they are among the tallest. The average Great Dane stands around 28-30 inches tall but often they can be taller. The world record holder for tallest dog was a Great Dane named Zeus who stood an astounding 44 inches tall. However, these big dogs trade longevity for their size, and live only to be between 6 to 8 years old. Zeus died of old age at just 5 years old.

Leonberger –

This breed stands between 27-31 inches tall and can weigh as much as 170 pounds. But despite their size, they are simply giant family dogs. Though their main purpose is as a companion animal, the breed does very well in everything from water rescue to tracking to herding.

Newfoundland dogs stand between 27-30 inches tall and weigh as much as 150 pounds. They look even bigger because of their thick double coat, which keeps them warm even in icy water.

Dogue de Bordeaux-

The Dogue de Bordeaux stands between 23-27 inches tall and weighs between 125-150 pounds. But though it is fairly average as far as mastiff breeds go, it does have one thing that sets it apart: It is reported to have the largest head of any canine in relation to body size.
